Sleigh Bells — “Comeback Kid” 

Kinda underwhelmed by new Sleigh Bells, aptly titled Reign of Terror, which is exactly the sonic landscape that most Sleigh Bells songs subject my ears to. the sheer semi-insanity of their arrangements and Ms. Krauss’ creepy-little-girl-sing-song + delay’d/reverb’d whisper-voice demands your full attention, and instills a special kind of terror, yes. I think their publicist would agree:

The band’s publicist said of the upcoming release [The album features] “songs that are as crushing and authoritative as their title suggests; they’re effortlessly robust and heavier than any of the band’s previous output … the sonic equivalent of a beautiful shotgun to the head.”

Thanks, obsequious and overly fawning publicist! I’ll remember that next time I feel like painting the walls with my brain. 

Their first album took time to grow on me, though, and this track is alright.

i don’t, however, appreciate the sound of cymbals crashing every other second as the primary rhythmic element of my music, no matter how syncopated or distorted they might be.
